Voices To Be Heard

Welcome to an experiment. My name is Matthew Salmon. I have been working frontline for one of the major Support Services in Lethbridge, Alberta for three years now, and have found considerable personal satisfaction from the friendships that I have had the opportunity to establish and develop. But perhaps fundamentally more important has been the chance I have had to (hopefully) effect an amount of positive change in the lives of the individuals that I have come to work with.
However, I have also noted the need for change within the current system. Presently there are several aspects of the business model of the “for profit” service providers that have lead to the diminished quality of care available for individuals with disabilities.
Lethbridge Winter This blog will not be focused on highlighting the shortcomings of any particular organization, but rather the fundamental weaknesses and flaws of the current situation, and will hopefully be a forum for the development of new and personal conceptions of care.
Perhaps more importantly, I intend for this blog to be a reflection of my experiences as a frontline staff working alongside individuals with disabilities. This is the word I would like to focus on as well: Individual. I am not sure of the impact my voice will have, but at least it is one more voice.
